Case Study - Jo-Anne Clarke |
|
Here are the pictures that I managed to take from my first outing in the wonderful and amazing Gala Tent.
It was quite amazing really. I had some help to put it up and take it down which I did not expect. I was grateful as I struggle to lift things
and get around, but I managed and was soooooo happy! The lady in the catering truck next to me was really kind and looked after me all weekend
too. I am thankful.
I managed to make a bit of a hash of things when I was trying to fasten the side walls together, and I popped off the zipper and one of the zip
teeth, but even though I broke it, it still fastened up after I got the zippy thing back on! A really clever design that is helpful when you are
out in the field with only a screwdriver and mallet. I managed to forget the little tool box that I had put together in my panic to get there…
nitwit! Anyway, how’s that for tough!!!
Then the rain came down… heavy rain, and it rained and rained for a day and a half, and my beautiful and lovely gazebo kept everything dry, even
though I was quite muddy! Yipeeeeee!!!! No more damaged work. As you can see from the photos below, I paint quite a few pastel works, and they
are not allowed to get wet because they are ruined if that happens. The oils are much more robust and can handle water splashes, but not my
delicate little pastels. People saw the work this time and actually came in to have a look. I got lots of lovely comments and had little of that
the first time around, AND I got invited back, despite my inexperience making me messy!!!
EVERYONE commented on how nice my Gazebo looked. They all remembered my sad little green mushroom, and that they made bets to see if I could fly
over Yeovil. I have a lot to get right – like remembering to put in an allen key for the ground bars, which are fantastic as hanging rails. I
managed to poke a screwdriver into my hand as I fiddled about, but in the end, I had a really robust gazebo that was the envy of the others…. I
also told other stand holders who did not have one to get one instead of making a huge mistake like I did.
It is quite hard to exhibit artwork outdoors. The paintings wobble about in the wind and I must have used half a reel of tough white picture
framing string to hold them in place. It was practically invisible against the white, but I will have to ‘invent’ a better solution. I made
quite a few mistakes in trying to work out how to display my work, but will have a think and try to make things better.
I feel that I made a massive change thanks to Gala Tent, and look forward to better times.
Thank you for all of your help. It made a huge difference in my life and I can hardly wait for October, when I will try again!
Much love and thanks,
Jo-Anne
