It’s not every day your Business Development Manager ends up behind the wheel of your company race car — but at Gala Performance, we do things differently.
Just three months after joining the team, 21-year-old Rotherham lad Alex Cox is now set to make his motorsport debut in the fiercely competitive Silverlake C1 Challenge, lining up alongside company directors Mark Thompson and Andrew Scott as part of the official Gala Performance Racing team.
This isn’t just a nice gesture. It’s a recognition of results.

Since joining the business in late 2024, Alex has brought fresh energy and enthusiasm to the team, helping to deliver a 61% increase in sales compared to the same December–May period the year before. His background in motorcycle sales, paired with a deep interest in motorsport, made him an instant fit for the brand — but it’s his drive (pun intended) that sealed the deal.
“Alex has thrown himself into the role with real passion,” said Mark Thompson, co-director at Gala Performance.
“He’s a brilliant fit, and when we saw how committed he was — not just in the office but on the track — it was a no-brainer to back him. He’s already putting in strong lap times in testing, and we’re proud to help him take this next step.”
The Silverlake C1 Challenge is an endurance race series where small Citroën C1 cars are pushed to their absolute limits in events ranging from 3-hour sprints to full 24-hour endurance races. With rounds held at iconic tracks like Silverstone, Donington Park, and Snetterton, it’s a proving ground for drivers and teams alike — and now, it’s where Alex will be cutting his teeth.

He’s currently working towards his ARDS racing licence, the official qualification needed to compete, with full support from Gala Performance’s senior team.
“This opportunity is massive for me,” said Alex. “To be able to work in the sport I love, then actually compete in it with the people I work alongside — it’s unreal. I’m training hard, learning loads from Mark and Andy, and I can’t wait to hit the grid.”
Alex’s journey is more than a personal win — it’s a reflection of Gala Performance’s commitment to grassroots motorsport. As a brand built by racers, for racers, we don’t just sell premium paddock kit — we’re out there using it, week in, week out. And now, so is Alex.
You’ll be able to track Alex’s progress and Gala Performance Racing’s 2025 season right here on our blog and over on Instagram and Facebook.
