PVC Gazebos

A PVC gazebo is a commercial pop-up gazebo fitted with a solid PVC canopy instead of a coated fabric one. The material is roughly twice the weight of a standard canopy, it wipes clean rather than needing washing, and it holds a crisp white finish through a full season of trading.

Gala Tent's PVC gazebos run across four Gala Shade frames, in sizes from 3m x 3m up to the 6m x 6m Vantage. The canopy is the Pro PVC finish, currently supplied in white, and it fits the Gala Shade frame you would otherwise buy in the matching size.

Canopies and sidewall sets are also sold on their own, so a PVC roof can go on a frame you already own.

What Is a PVC Gazebo?

A PVC gazebo is a pop-up gazebo whose canopy is made from PVC. Almost every commercial gazebo on the market uses PVC in some form, so the useful question is which form, because the two are built differently and behave differently in use.

PVC-coated polyester, the standard canopy

The standard Gala Shade canopy is a woven polyester fabric with a PVC coating bonded to it. The polyester carries the strength and the coating carries the waterproofing. It is light to handle, folds down small, comes in twelve colours, and it is waterproof, fire retardant and UV protected. This is what most people are describing when they say PVC gazebo, and for the majority of buyers it is the right cover.

Solid PVC, the Pro PVC finish

The Pro PVC canopy is PVC all the way through rather than a coating on a fabric. It is 46 micron and 580gsm, which is around twice the weight of a standard canopy, and the surface is smooth rather than woven. That surface is the point: dust, grease, food splash and road grime wipe off it instead of soaking into a weave, so the canopy still looks presentable after a season that would leave fabric looking tired.

It is fire retardant and UV protected, and rated from minus 30 up to 70 degrees Celsius. It is heavier to carry and it is supplied in white.

Is PVC waterproof?

Yes. PVC is waterproof as a material, which is why it is used for the cover in the first place. The difference between the two canopies is where the waterproofing comes from. On a coated polyester canopy it comes from the coating, so the coating is what wears. On a solid PVC canopy the whole sheet is the waterproof layer, so there is no coating to wear through. Both shed rain from new, and the solid PVC has more to give over a long working life.

One note on the numbers. Denier measures the thickness of the yarn in a woven fabric and gsm measures the weight of a finished sheet per square metre, so a 600D rating and a 580gsm rating are not measuring the same thing and cannot be read as one being stronger than the other. Both canopies are waterproof, fire retardant and UV protected. The difference that matters day to day is the surface and the weight.

Frames and Sizes

The Pro PVC canopy runs across all four Gala Shade frames, though the size ladder differs by frame. The heavier frames carry the larger footprints.

The frame is the strength decision and the canopy is a separate one. If you are choosing a frame first, the Gala Shade gazebo guide sets out the differences between the four, and the gazebo size guide covers footprint against guest and stock numbers.

Where a PVC Gazebo Earns Its Keep

The Pro PVC canopy is built for gazebos that work for a living rather than ones that come out twice a summer.

  • Market and street trading, where the gazebo goes up and down several times a week and picks up road grime between pitches
  • Catering and street food, where grease and food splash land on the canopy and need wiping off rather than scrubbing out
  • Motorsport paddocks, where oil, rubber and brake dust are part of the weekend
  • Pub gardens and outdoor hospitality, where the gazebo stays up for a season and has to keep looking presentable
  • Trade stands and exhibitions, where a crisp white finish does the same job as clean signage

For heavier structural demands rather than surface ones, the heavy duty gazebo range covers the frame side of the question, and commercial gazebos covers the trade range as a whole.

PVC Gazebo Roofs and Canopies

The PVC gazebo roof is sold on its own as well as with a frame, so you can put a PVC canopy on a Gala Shade frame you already own. It is also the route to take if an existing canopy is worn and you want a harder-wearing replacement rather than a like-for-like one.

PVC gazebo covers run from 3m x 3m up to 6m x 6m. Order the size that matches your frame. They fit Gala Shade frames and are not cut to fit gazebos from other retailers.

PVC Gazebo Sides and Sidewalls

PVC side panels enclose the gazebo in the same material as the roof, so the whole structure wipes down as one. Sidewall sets sleeve over the ground bar and can be fitted or removed as the day changes, which matters when a pitch is exposed in the morning and busy by lunchtime.

Sets are available from 3m x 3m up to 6m x 6m, matching the canopy sizes. If you want to compare enclosing options across the range first, the gazebos with sides page covers the panel types.

The Other PVC Finish

Gala Tent also makes a transparent PVC canopy, which is a lighter 22 micron material chosen for light transmission rather than hard wear. It suits situations where you want to shelter a space without darkening it, such as a market display, a workshop bay or a stand you need customers to see into.

It is a different job from the one the Pro PVC finish does, and it has its own page covering specification, sizes and use.

PVC Gazebo FAQs

Are PVC gazebos waterproof?

Yes. PVC is waterproof as a material rather than by treatment. On a standard canopy the waterproofing comes from a PVC coating bonded to a polyester weave, and on the Pro PVC canopy the whole sheet is PVC, so there is no coating to wear through.

What is a PVC gazebo?

A PVC gazebo is a pop-up gazebo with a PVC canopy. The standard Gala Shade canopy is PVC-coated polyester, a woven fabric with a bonded coating. The Pro PVC canopy is solid PVC throughout at 46 micron and 580gsm, with a smooth wipe-clean surface and around twice the weight.

What is the difference between PVC and PVC-coated polyester?

Both are waterproof, fire retardant and UV protected, so the choice is not about weather protection. Coated polyester is lighter to carry, packs smaller and comes in twelve colours. Solid PVC is heavier, wipes clean rather than needing washing, and holds its finish better through hard commercial use.

Is a PVC gazebo fire retardant?

Yes. Both the standard PVC-coated polyester canopy and the Pro PVC canopy are fire retardant. If an organiser or venue asks for a fire retardant cover, either will meet that requirement. The transparent PVC canopy is the one exception in the range and is not fire retardant.

Can I buy a PVC gazebo roof on its own?

Yes. PVC canopies and sidewall sets are sold separately from the frame and fit the Gala Shade frame in the matching size, so an existing gazebo can be re-covered rather than replaced. They are cut to Gala Shade dimensions and will not fit a gazebo bought elsewhere.

How do you clean a PVC gazebo?

Wipe it down with warm water and a cloth or sponge. The smooth surface means dirt, grease and food splash sit on top rather than soaking into a weave, so it does not need scrubbing. Let it dry fully before folding it away, as with any canopy.

What sizes do PVC gazebos come in?

Complete PVC gazebos run from 3m x 3m up to the 6m x 6m Vantage, with the size ladder varying by frame. Canopies and sidewall sets on their own run from 3m x 3m to 6m x 6m.

What colours does the PVC canopy come in?

The Pro PVC canopy is currently supplied in white. The standard PVC-coated polyester canopy is available in twelve colours, covered on the gazebo colours page.
