To put those figures in plain terms: a small 3m x 3m marquee costs from around £170 a day and holds about 12 standing. A mid-sized 6m x 6m costs from around £500 a day and holds roughly 48 standing, or about 24 for a seated meal. A large 6m x 12m runs from around £800 a day and holds close to 100 standing.

If you're working from a headcount rather than a size, here's a rough starting point for standing events:

• Around 25 guests — a 3m x 6m, from roughly £270 a day.
• Around 50 guests — a 6m x 6m, from roughly £500 a day.
• Around 65 guests — a 6m x 8m, from roughly £600 a day.
• Around 100 guests — a 6m x 12m, from roughly £800 a day.

What Affects the Cost of Marquee Hire

Several things move the price, which is why a guide figure is only ever a starting point:

• Size — larger structures cost more to supply, transport and erect.
• Duration — most hirers charge a day rate with a smaller fee for each additional day.
• Location — delivery distance and regional demand both play a part.
• Season — peak wedding and summer months tend to cost more than off-season dates.
• Accessories and setup — flooring, lining, lighting, heating and professional setup all add to the base price.

For a single event, hiring almost always works out cheaper. The picture changes quickly with repeat use: a 6m x 6m hired for a weekend can run to several hundred pounds, so if you'll need a marquee more than a couple of times, buying one outright often pays for itself within a few uses, and you own commercial-grade kit you can pitch whenever you like.
