How to Order Swisstrax

We get it. Ordering Swisstrax might feel complicated at first. But don't worry, once you know the basics, it's actually pretty straightforward. Here's how to get it right the first time.

Step 1: Measure Your Space

Swisstrax tiles are 40cm x 40cm. That means you'll need 6.25 tiles per square metre, or more simply:

Measure your space in metres (width x length), multiply each measurement by 2.5, and round up to the next full tile.

Example 1: Simple Single Colour Floor

If your garage is 4m x 4m:

  • 4 x 2.5 = 10 tiles wide
  • 4 x 2.5 = 10 tiles long
  • You need 10 x 10 = 100 tiles

Easy. Pick your tile and colours, get in touch and order with confidence.

Example 2: A Floor That's Not a Perfect Fit

Let's say your space is 4.2m x 4.3m:

  • 4.2 x 2.5 = 10.5 → round up to 11 tiles
  • 4.3 x 2.5 = 10.75 → round up to 11 tiles
  • You'll need 11 x 11 = 121 tiles

You'll just need to trim some tiles at the back or side to make it fit neatly.

Step 2: Choosing Colours

You've got two main options here, and both are easy to plan:

A) One Colour All Over

No extra calculations needed. Just work out how many tiles you need and order them all in your chosen colour.

B) Chequered Pattern

Want a 2-colour checkerboard look?
Just divide your total number of tiles by two, and order half in one colour, half in the other.

For example: 100 tiles total = 50 black + 50 grey

C) Feature Area or Colour Block

If you want to highlight a section, like where a vehicle might sit, here's a simple guide:

  • A rectangle (approx. 2.4m x 3.2m) needs 48 tiles
  • A single tile border around that area would need 24 tiles

So for example, you might order:

  • 48 red tiles for the car zone
  • 24 black tiles for the border
  • Then the rest in your base colour

Step 3: Don't Forget the Edge Ramps

If you've got open sides (like a garage door entrance), you'll want ramped edging so vehicles can drive onto the tiles smoothly.

  • Each ramp is 40cm wide
  • Just measure the opening and divide by 0.4 (or multiply metres by 2.5)

Example:

If your garage door is 2.4m wide:

  • 2.4 x 2.5 = 6 ramps

Some people order one extra just to be safe.

That's It!

Once you know:

  • The size of your space
  • Your tile colours
  • Any edges you need
