How much do wedding marquees cost?

If you’re looking to buy a marquee for a wedding, we’d definitely recommend one that’s made of polyethylene/PVC or PVC (our Elite and Pro Elite ranges) since these are more heavy duty and hard-wearing materials than polyethylene (our Original range).

In terms of the size, this will of course depend on the number of guests you are inviting and how much of the event will take place inside the marquee. As a guide:

Of course, in addition to a seating area you’re also likely to want space within the marquee for a bar, food tables for an evening buffet and a dance floor. As a rule it’s better to size up rather than size down. See our pages on the costs of buying vs hiring a marquee and FAQs on using a marquee for a wedding for further information.

How much does it cost to decorate a marquee?

You could arguably spend thousands of pounds on decorations: lights alone can eat up the budget. But the beauty of a marquee is that it acts as a blank canvas, providing the perfect opportunity to get creative, whatever the occasion. For example, paper lanterns and flowers and colourful glass vases can look great and are inexpensive, while lengths of fabric can be draped across the inside of the tent and around poles for added colour and atmosphere. And fairy lights are a cheaper lighting option that create an intimate and pretty setting – see sites like Pinterest for ideas and inspiration. So realistically, depending on the size and type of event, you could decorate the marquee with a couple of hundred pounds or less.

Is it cheaper to buy or hire a marquee?

While it may seem like hiring a marquee is cheaper, there are a number of extra costs that you don’t get when you buy – for example, lots of companies charge for transportation and set-up. And then there’s the damage waiver, which is typically 4% or 5% of the total hire cost. You’ll find more information on our buying vs hiring a marquee page, but we believe it’s far more cost-effective to buy a marquee and have the option to use it again and again for years to come.
