Customer Stories Our Sales Team Will Never Forget

Our sales team talk to traders, event organisers, racers and garden owners every day. Most calls are about sizes, colours and delivery dates. Every now and then, one sticks.

We asked the team for the customer stories they remember most vividly. Here they are, in their own words: gazebos that rode out storms, plain canopies turned into barns, a golf business built on extra leg height, and one request we still can't quite explain.

The stories in short

  • A 4m x 8m Gala Shade Pro 60 came through an overnight 75mph wind at Santa Pod with one broken zip on an eight-year-old door panel.
  • A market trader who used to close early in bad weather recorded their best day's takings under a borrowed Gala Tent gazebo.
  • A Gala Tent gazebo stood over a hot tub for four years, and its owner says the frame still looks like new.
  • A custom printed canopy turned a plain gazebo into The Barn Boutique, and a Pro 50 on extension legs became the base for a golf business.

Gazebos Our Customers Rely On

The Gala Shade range behind most of these stories, from the Pro 40 market traders love to the Pro 60 that sat out 75mph at Santa Pod.

The Investment Worth Waiting For

At the start of 2025 I spoke to a lady who had been considering a Gala Tent gazebo for a couple of years. It had always been beyond her budget, so she kept buying cheaper alternatives while keeping an eye on ours.

At an event that January, strong winds caused problems for several traders, including her. A neighbouring trader with a Gala Tent gazebo helped by securing hers to his, and another trader did the same on the other side.

When she got home, she told her partner what had happened, and said:

"Mark has always provided me with a quote, even when the timing wasn't right. I'm calling him in the morning and finally investing in a Gala Tent gazebo."

It was a lovely reminder that patience, helpful service and a product people believe in can turn a long-standing enquiry into a sale.

Four Years Over a Hot Tub

Another customer got in touch to buy a replacement canopy. He explained that his Gala Tent gazebo had been up over his hot tub for four years.

He was particularly impressed with the frame, which he said still looked "like brand new".

That's the advantage of an aluminium frame with a replaceable canopy. When the fabric finally wears, you swap the canopy and keep the frame.

From Closing Early to a Record Trading Day

A customer told me they had bought their original gazebo from Amazon and regularly struggled with it at markets. Wind and poor weather sometimes meant they had to stop trading early.

When that gazebo finally failed, they borrowed a friend's Gala Tent gazebo. They were able to stay open, and recorded their best day's takings.

That experience brought them to us, and they bought a 3m x 3m Gala Shade Pro 40.

They described it as one of the best discoveries they had made for their business.

75mph Winds at Santa Pod

I've spoken to this customer a few times in person at the drag racing at Santa Pod. He called in after a particularly violent storm over a race weekend.

Santa Pod is an old airfield, so it's exposed to the wind and still has the equipment to measure wind speed. Speeds of 75mph were recorded overnight.

His 4m x 8m Pro 60 came through with one problem: a broken zip on the door panel. That sidewall was eight years old, so not a bad innings.

Plenty of other gazebos on site weren't as strong. By his account, it was carnage.

If high winds are forecast, our guide on how to secure a gazebo in high winds is worth reading before you set up.

Ideas That Became Businesses

Some calls start with an odd request and end with someone building a living around a gazebo.

Make My Gazebo Look Like a Barn

A woman phoned in with one request: make my gazebo look like a barn. She sent over an AI-generated image of a barn, and we sent back a printed gazebo with a timber-plank canopy, a tiled roof print and her shop name across the front.

Her husband now wants in. He wants to sell men's clothing alongside her women's boutique.

They're looking to move from normal jobs to running a boutique clothes shop full time. It's great to play a part in them following their passion.

Room for a Bigger Swing

The customer who springs to mind is a gentleman who needed a gazebo with enough clearance to swing his golf clubs comfortably. He had struggled to find a solution for years until he called Gala Tent.

I introduced him to the Gala Shade Pro 50 and its extension legs, which took the setup to 3 metres and gave him the height he needed.

That conversation opened up a whole new opportunity. He now takes his Pro 50 to different locations and has built a business around it.

We also showed him how simple, effective branding could make the setup work harder for his business. The photo shows how far the idea has come.

One Gazebo, Two Jobs at a Wedding

This customer runs weddings. After she sent us this photo of a ceremony set up under her gazebo, I called her back with an idea.

She could join a second gazebo to this one and use it as a prep area for the guests' food. While everyone eats, her team can reset the ceremony space ready for the party afterwards.

Same footprint, more out of every booking. She's considering it for next year.

Proud Moments and Odd Requests

A headline gig and a call that still gets brought up in the office.

The Merch Stall at a Liam Gallagher Gig

My favourite product story is seeing our gazebo used as the official merchandise stall at a Liam Gallagher concert in Belfast.

I took a few photos at the event, and it made me proud to see our product at such a high-profile gig. I told the whole team about it at the time.

Six Colours to Confuse the Bees

I once sold six gazebos, each in a different colour, to a gentleman who wanted to confuse bees.

Seriously.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a typical gazebo last before it needs to be replaced?
It depends on the frame, the canopy and how often it goes up. Cheap pop-up gazebos can struggle after a season or two of regular use. A commercial aluminium frame like the Gala Shade Pro range is built for years of use, and when the canopy wears you can replace it and keep the frame. One of our customers had a Gala Tent gazebo over his hot tub for four years with the frame still looking like new.
Can you leave a gazebo up all year?
A heavy duty aluminium gazebo can stay up for long periods if it's looked after. Weight or anchor every leg, check the canopy and fixings regularly, and take it down or lower it when storms or heavy snow are forecast. See our all year round gazebos for the models suited to long-term setups.
Can you put a pop up gazebo over a hot tub?
Yes. Choose a sturdy aluminium frame, check the height clears the tub and its lid, and anchor it properly. Sidewalls add privacy and shelter. Our hot tub gazebos page covers sizes and options.
Can you join two gazebos together?
Yes. Gala Tent gazebos can be linked using gazebo connectors, which is how traders and event businesses create larger covered spaces or separate areas, such as a prep space beside a ceremony. Talk to our team about which connectors suit your frame.
How do I stop my gazebo blowing away?
Use weights on every leg on hard ground, and pegs or ground anchors on grass. Keep sidewalls secured so they don't catch the wind, and take the gazebo down if winds are forecast to exceed what your setup can safely handle. Our guide on securing a gazebo in high winds explains each step.
